Cambridge 2008 - Lull and Kill Tour

Never before have the Strollers shown such abject lack of cricketing skill and glorious talent in the space of 4 hours.

Rolled over for a paltry 87 in less than 25 overs with only 9 men available to bat, the comeback Fifteen-15 victory with 4 overs to spare led to a decider victory in the evening drinking contest.

Game one

Collapse with Luke playing over a toe-crunching yorker, Holliday scratching around for an age before being put out of his misery by Whitey and only resistance coming from Andy Carey's Melbourne hitting down the order. As the St Catz students began to wonder why they had bothered getting out of bed, the runs were knocked off for the loss of 5 wickets. Former captain Tom Fletcher had much to answer for as he arrived 3 hours late with Rick using this as his excuse for also being timed out. Highlight of the match was Paddy's drop at slip followed the next over by a fine catch to make up for the previous spillage.

Game two (unofficial)

With the Strollers now restored to the full 11 (plus Charlie and his plastic car at fine leg) a hastily arranged Fifteen-15 proved to be redemption for the cornered tiger that was Strollers CC. A combative display in the field (restricting Catz to 111) with enthusiastic chasing and throwing, some pace from Holliday and the day's champagne moment as Rick's "It's not a test match" sledge was followed by being carted the next ball for a beefy four. The opposition endeared themselves to SCC with Welshman Dai's reverse sweeping marking out a potential transfer target for next season.

The reply was anchored by Luke's excellent 20*, a good biff from Youngy and then some extraordinary hitting from Hollers - who's 70* came off about 30 balls and included some enormous sixes.

Game three

Boat race was comfortably won in the bar, Hollers necked his pint quicker than his nemesis Dai and all headed for a night of fun (courtesy of Allen nightclubs PLC) at Cindies nightclub. Highlights included Rick's pitiful stage dive leading to his ejection by the bouncers and much student baiting as the Strollers outlasted their cricketing opposition.

Player ratings

Luke: started the rot in game one missing a full bunger. A few cheap 15-15 runs. 7

Hollers: tied down in his 1st knock, some very slow spin bowling before he saved Strollers blushes with his 6 hitting maasterclass. 8

Duncan Brown: stylish looking and "at one point had scored 4 of team's 5 runs". Enthusiastic fielding and dancing, the latter Gower-esque the former less so. 5

Paddy: first losing captain in living memory, couldn't get team to ground on time. Slip catch shelled. Shirked bowling responsibilities 3

Carey: guided team past lowest ever score in game one with 30*. Looked exhausted (as usual) after 2 overs but bowled well in both games. Man of the day 8.5

Youngy: an alright keeper, no byes but weak running between the wickets and failed to land the strippers he had promised Hollers 7

Tim: wonderful startled goalkeeper in the field, hoggard-esque batting and now official Strollers scorer 6

Paul: snored in bed, brought wickie gloves from a recent stag do and enthusiastic in the field. Extremely disappointed not to bat a 2nd time. 6.5

Matt: bristow's goatee love child. Harmison esque 1st over after 2 good balls. Covered a lot of ground at fine leg and unlike other debutants has mastered the art of "That's not out" umpiring 5

Bristow: first Stroller to be timed out. Woeful time keeping. 2

Tom: 3 hrs late. Only gets a point for having introduced his son to strolling. Then went home early.Showed his son strollers. 1
