Simon "Hollers" Holliday

There was a time when Hollers didn't play for the Strollers - but few can now remember such dark days. The impact he has made is difficult to underestimate - when did the team last play a match without a complex betting book riding on every batman's score and dropped catch?

Only John "the Indian bookmaker" and Hansie Cronje are more closely associated with gambling and cricket in the public's imagination. The greatest irony being that nobody in Britain knows less about odds than Simon Holliday.

As a batter and left-arm twirler Hollers has on occasions shined for the Strollers and his stats demonstrate skills picked up whilst playing for the Notts 2nd team/U11s. However his fitness often lets him down and many have commented that only if he lost 3 stone he could be quite a player. One particularly stark example was the Mells match of 2006 when Hollers retired hurt and exhausted on 149* hoping that his teamates might guide the ship home (they of course did). His record as - the Strollers batsman to have retired hurt most often - is telling.

The friendlessness, personable outlook, competitive streak, obsession with stats and appalling timekeeping make him the epitome of a Stroller. Over the coming seasons it is hoped that fatherhood will mature his cricketing outlook and bring with it cricketing success to match his undoubted talent.
